Virtual Private Network (cVPN) Overview
KB00015292 •25767 Views • Updated 1-Jul-2024
The University of Chicago Virtual Private Network (cVPN) provides faculty, students, and staff with secure access to University network resources as if you were on campus, no matter where you are in the world. The cVPN is used to remotely access resources that are only available while on the campus network. These resources include shared resources like departmental file shares, applications like remote desktop access (RDP/SSH/etc.), and other campus-only resources. All you need is the Cisco AnyConnect application and your CNetID and password to connect to the cVPN. You also need to set up two-factor authentication before downloading the AnyConnect app.
Download Cisco AnyConnect
To get started with using cVPN, simply open your favorite browser, then go to cvpn.uchicago.edu, where you can download the appropriate application for your operating system (OS) and device (i.e., laptop, tablet, smartphone). Access to the installation user guides for your device's operating system is in the Installation Guide section below, and other related information is in the cVPN FAQ.
Note: RDP (remote desktop protocol) is not accessible from off-campus unless you are on the cVPN.
