IT Services provides all current faculty, students, and staff with an email address that looks like CNetID@uchicago.edu. To use your account, you must agree to abide by the University's Acceptable Use Policy, which states that protected data and emails (including sensitive student, financial, and research data) should not be forwarded or stored outside the campus network. If you have questions about the policy, read FAQs On The Acceptable Use Policy.
Email Options
Current faculty, students, and staff are offered two email application options:
- Microsoft Outlook: Microsoft Outlook is part of the Microsoft 365 suite. You are encouraged to use Outlook because of its integrated collaborative features, which include a calendar management tool that makes arranging meetings effortlessly, the campus directory that can help you populate your email address book, and shared inboxes and calendars.
- UChicago Gmail: UChicago Gmail is part of the UChicago Google Workspace, which also supports a variety of collaborative tools and features similar to Microsoft 365. Visit gmail.uchicago.edu to log into UChicago Gmail.
Email Settings
- Forwarding: You may set up email forwarding when you prefer to receive incoming emails sent to your CNetID@uchicago.edu address at an alternate departmental or external account. This is an option available to all faculty, students, and staff. Before setting up forwarding, check with your department for possible restrictions. To learn how to forward your email, read Forward Your University Email. Special forwarding options are available to UChicago alumni.
- Spam and Email Protection: To manage your email filters, visit spam.uchicago.edu then log in with your CNetID and password. For more information, view the Email Protection Overview and FAQ.
