UChicago has software license agreements with a range of vendors to provide departments with free or reduced-cost academic and productivity tools.

If there's a software package you think might be of common interest but you don't see it listed here, send your suggestions to licensing@uchicago.edu.

Software Description Eligibility How To Purchase
Adobe Acrobat Acrobat Pro perpetual license University-owned computers Perpetual Acrobat Pro and Captivate licenses can be purchased on BuySite using the punch-out to GovConnection. You will download the software directly from Adobe. 
Adobe Creative Cloud Annual Subscription for Design and Web software University-owned computers For Creative Cloud Named User licenses, use BuySite. Choose ITS Site Licensed Software as the supplier.
Apple (various) Includes Final Cut Pro, Motion 5, Logic Pro X University-owned computers Your departmental purchaser should use BuySite. Select the Apple punch-out icon. The software is located under the Accessories tab.
ArcGIS Mapping and spatial analysis University-owned computers For pricing and how to purchase, visit the Research Computing Center website.
Autodesk Design and Engineering software; Autocad, Inventor, Maya, and others Current faculty, students, and staff Purchase not required. Create AutoDesk account, using your @uchicago.edu email address.

Compilers

Electronic Design Software Includes Mentor Graphics & Cadence University-owned computers

GraphPad Prism Basic biostatistics, curve fitting, and scientific graphing University-owned computers

GraphPad Prism licenses can be purchased on BuySite by selecting IT Services Site-Licensed Software as the supplier.

Spirion (formerly Identity Finder) Prevents identity theft by finding sensitive data on your computer

All individually-owned and University-owned equipment.

 Current faculty and staff (affiliates not included)

Purchase not required. Get Spirion (Identity Finder).
Mathematica Statistics and visualization software Current faculty, students, and staff No purchase is required. Get Mathematica.
MATLAB Technical computing software for engineers and scientists in government, industry, and education. University-owned computers and computational clusters This is an annual subscription. Your departmental purchaser will use BuySite and choose the IT Services Site Licensing icon as the supplier.

Faculty, students, and staff who work at home

University-owned equipment 

The On-Premises licenses can be downloaded at no cost by faculty and staff from the University of Chicago or UChicago Medicine. The licenses can be installed on computers only owned by the University, or UChicago Medicine, and on work-at-home computers.

The Desktop Bundle licenses are not intended for personal computer use. At no cost, you may install Office 365 (portal.office.com) on computers owned by the University, or UChicago Medicine, and on work-at-home computers.

Microsoft Windows Upgrade  Windows 10 upgrade

 Faculty, students, and staff who work at home,

University-owned equipment 

 

At no cost, the upgrade can be downloaded by the faculty and staff of the University of Chicago or UChicago Medicine. It can be installed on computers owned by the University, UChicago Medicine, and work-at-home computers only.

 Faculty, students, and staff who work at home

University-owned equipment 

Visio and Project licenses are available for purchase in Buysite. Your departmental purchaser will choose the ITS Site Licensing icon as the supplier.

Windows Server licenses, SQL, and CALs are covered under the University’s EES agreement.  Contact licensing@uchicago.edu for access to these licenses.

Visual Studio w/MSDN, Power BI Pro, and server licenses not covered under the Core agreement can be purchased in Buysite. Contact licensing@uchicago.edu for purchase quotes.

Minitab Statistical and process management software Faculty and staff

Minitab is no longer available for institutional purchase from Site Licensing effective June 1, 2022.  Minitab is available as a non-catalog supplier in Buysite for purchasing.
