Campus Card Eligibility

Can anyone get a Campus Card?

No. You are only eligible for a Campus Card under the following conditions:

A Campus Card is requested by University staff for people who require access to their buildings or for other services as approved by the local service manager.

If a person is eligible for a UChicago Card, can they also get a Campus Card?

No.

Is my temporary or casual worker eligible for a UChicago Card?

Temporary or casual employees and some part-time staff are not eligible for UChicago Cards. Check with your HR administrator to confirm eligibility for a specific employee. For those who are not eligible for a UChicago Card, an HR administrator can request a Campus Card for required tap or swipe access to University facilities.

Do I need to get a temporary card for someone who needs access for just a couple of days?

Short-Term Access cards are available from the ID & Privileges Office (IPO). For more information, see the article Short-Term Access Overview.

Can I get a Campus Card for someone who needs long-term access?

Yes, a temporary affiliation in Campus Card can be selected for such needs as a Housing babysitter or an Astronomy Club member. After the CCI rep sets up your record, and you receive your photo Campus Card, that ISO# and RFID on the card can be used by the appropriate application (such as building access). The CCI rep will need to request services as needed.

Does a bridged lecturer who is not active but needs access to a building need a Campus Card?

Yes, that is an appropriate use of the Campus Card.

Campus Card Services

What services come with the Campus Card?

Only access to the Campus Shuttle service is included when a Campus Card is issued.  All other access needs to be added as needed.

Can I use my Campus Card at Ratner?

If you already have a Campus Card, it may be used at Ratner just as UChicago Cards and University of UC Medical Center ID Cards. Otherwise, you will be given a Ratner membership card when you purchase membership.

Will the Campus Card allow me to ride the CTA campus buses for free?

No. That access is available for the UChicago Card, Lab School card, and Medical Center ID card, but not the Campus Card. You may use your Campus Card to ride the UGO campus shuttle buses.

Campus Card Management and Expiration

How can I get a Campus Card?

A University or Medical Center staff member responsible for establishing your services on campus should contact campuscard@lists.uchicago.edu on your behalf with the following information:

When will my card expire?

The expiration date is printed on your Campus Card. The maximum expirations are:

I've lost my card. What do I do?

If your card is lost or stolen, contact the IPO or call 773.702.3344 immediately so that your card can be deactivated for your protection; once deactivated, it must be replaced. If a card is turned in to Lost & Found, it will not be deactivated. The Library will make a best effort to contact you so that you may retrieve it. To replace a lost or stolen card, visit the ID & Privileges Office in the 1st Floor lobby of the Regenstein Library.

I don't like my Campus Card photo. May I get a new card?

There is a $20 replacement fee as long as you are not within ten days of your expiration date.

Do I have to get a new photo every time my card expires?

Not necessarily, your photo may be re-used for two to five years depending on how accurately it still reflects your appearance. Note: Family under 21 years old will need to have a new photo taken every two years.

How can I pick up a card?

Once you or your sponsor receive acknowledgment that your Campus Card record has been created, you can go to the IPO to have your card made. You must bring a government-issued photo ID, such as a driver's license, passport, or state ID card. Your will get your photo taken and you will receive your card before you leave. If this is a renewal, please hand in your expired card.

Campus Card Interface Information

What does CCI stand for and what does it do?

The Campus Card Interface (CCI) is a web-based application that allows an account to be entered or maintained in the University's Master Constituency Database (MCDB) so that services can be tracked.

What does MCDB stand for?

The Master Constituency DataBase (MCDB) is the UChicago central person registry.

Who can access the Campus Card Interface?

The ID & Privileges Office (IPO) creates most Campus Card accounts. Departments that anticipate a consistently high volume of Campus Card requests may request Campus Card admin training at campuscard@lists.uchicago.edu.

Which browser does CCI work best with?

For the best experience, CCI works best with Firefox.

Do I need to add people in both TAG/AAMS and CCI?

If a person needs a CNetID in order to access your application and do their work, then yes.

  1. Add the person to AAMS.
  2. Locate them in CCI and update that record.

Note: Only Trusted Agents may add Temporary (t-9) accounts.

Is it OK to set up a Campus Card for someone from another department?

No. You should only provide the Campus Card to people that you know are associated with your service area.

How are affiliates added to the database?

Affiliates are uploaded to the MCDB using special setups. Housing & Residence Life, NORC, Toyota Technical Institute at Chicago, and others use such uploads.

When does the CCI record get into the building access applications like CBORD and Continuum?

CBORD systems receive Campus Card records about 30 minutes after the Campus Card has been printed and issued to the cardholder. Continuum systems receive Campus Card both pending and active records in their nightly feeds the day they are created.

How soon can I send someone to the ID & Privileges Office to get a card after I enter them into CCI?

Immediately. Records are entered directly into the MCDB from the CCI, so the IPO staff can call up that record and create the card right away.

Note: There can be a delay after someone claims their CNetID. The CNetID success screen notes that some applications, such as Canvas, may have a two-hour delay. But there is not a delay after creation of the Campus Card record.

An alum is starting as a short-term or part-time employee. Do I have to wait for HR's set-up?

No. You can find the alum's CNetID in CCI.

Note: CCI maintenance is allowed even though there is a grace period student affiliation. All systems will use the alum's existing CNetID.

I see in the CCI search results that this person is eligible for a UChicago Card, but the IPO says they can't get one now. Can I give them a Campus Card?

No. The person may need to resolve some issue with the University, such as an outstanding balance at the Office of the Bursar or a Library fee. Have the person resolve the open issue and their UChicago Card will be reactivated.
