Occasionally, the Excel Smart View add-in fails to start after you install it.

Symptoms

After you install Smart View, you receive an error upon launching Microsoft Excel. The Smart View add-in does not appear in the ribbon, but you can see the Add-Ins tab.

Cause

The Smart View add-in was not installed correctly.

Confirm this by selecting File > Options > Add-Ins to open the View and manage Microsoft Office add-ins window.

The Smart View COM add-in appears in the active application Add-ins section, but the Smart View Excel Add-in is not listed.

Solution

This issue requires manual intervention. To fix the installation:

1. Select the Hstbar from available Add-ins.
2. Select Go at the bottom of the screen to open the Add-Ins dialog.
   
3. Select Hstbar, then select OK.
4. Relaunch Excel. This should resolve the error.

If the Add-Ins dialog does not list Hstbar perform the following:

1. Select Browse…
2. Go to C:\Oracle\SmartView\Bin.
3. Scroll down and double-click the HsTbar file. The Browse window will close.
   
4. The Add-Ins dialog box will appear. Select Hstbar
5. Select OK and relaunch Excel. This should resolve the error.
