Online Directory Overview

The University's Online Directory (directory.uchicago.edu) contains contact information about faculty, students, staff, and departments, and includes links to alumni, affiliates, student organizations, and more. It is the main directory resource for the UChicago community and the general public.

Divisions and Departments

The Directory has Directory Reviewers in every department. Directory Reviewers maintain accurate information for their organizations and all the people within them.

Faculty and staff may also modify their Directory listings by selecting sign in on the top right of the Directory page, choosing the appropriate institution, logging in, and then selecting Welcome, <your name> that will replace the sign in link. This will take you to the self-edit screen. From the self-edit screen, you may:

Students

Student information is populated by data from the University Registrar. To make updates to areas such as preferred name, address, phone, or FERPA (Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act) status, students can log in to my.UChicago and make edits from the My Profile dashboard. To make updates to areas such as legal name or program of study, students must contact the University Registrar

Access

Those who log in to the Directory with their CNetID and password have full access to all information and functionality features. Logged-in users can search people, divisions, departments, and sub-divisions by name and phone number by using Advanced Search. Logged-in users also see the information that individuals have chosen to hide from people outside the University community.

Non-logged-in users could be those who have the ability to log in but have chosen not to do so, or they could be the general public. Non-logged-in users can see up to 25 entries maximum for any given search and may only view the level of information that faculty and staff have chosen to make available to the general public (often only their name and email address). Non-logged-in users will not see any information for students who have invoked FERPA protections.

For full access to all directory information, it is recommended that you login.

Hard Copy

The Directory Office no longer prints Directory books. However, if you prefer to print a hard copy, you may log in to the Directory and select Download Directory PDFs. Then simply download and print.

While Directory PDFs are updated in the system every night and reflect accurate and up-to-date information, once you have downloaded the Directory PDF, the data becomes static and will soon become out of date.

You may search the PDF that you have downloaded to your computer using names, phone numbers, or words. If you print the PDF, you will have to search alphabetically as you would in any other printed directory.
