IT Services Status Updates

To keep the UChicago campus community informed and updated, IT Services provides status updates when services experience an outage or serious performance problem. Status updates come in the form of initial notifications, progress updates, and restoration notifications.

You can subscribe to receive updates by email or SMS text message to your cell phone (and later unsubscribe if desired). You can also view the current system status by visiting the IT Services request portal and selecting System Status from the upper navigation bar, or by going to the IT Status Announcements (it-status.uchicago.edu/) page directly.

Subscribe to IT Status Updates

  1. Go to the IT Status Announcements (it-status.uchicago.edu) page.
  2. Click Subscribe to Updates in the upper right-hand corner of the page.
  3. In the dialog box, select the envelope icon for email notifications or the telephone icon for SMS notifications. (If you want to receive both, please subscribe to them successively.)
Dialog box for subscriptions: Email subscription button is on the top left, SMS subscription button is immediately to its right
  4. Enter your email address or cell phone number, as appropriate, and click the Subscribe button.
  5. You'll be presented with a list of IT service areas components to which updates are sent. If you don't want to receive updates for all components, simply uncheck the checkbox associated with a particular component. (New components are occasionally added, so if you only subscribe to a subset, you may want to check back periodically to see if others you may be interested in have been added.)
  6. Click the Update Preferences button.

Note: SMS text message subscribers will only receive updates at the beginning and end of a service disruption. Email subscribers will also receive updates during a disruption if any are sent. Email updates to uchicago.edu email addresses may be delayed if there is a campus email or network outage. If campus email is unavailable during an outage, please refer to the IT Services Self-Service Portal, the IT Status Announcements page, or subscribe to text alerts.

Unsubscribe from Email IT Status Updates

  1. From an IT Status email, click the Manage your subscription link at the bottom of the message.
  2. On the UChicago Notifications Subscription page, click Cancel Subscription located in the Subscriber box. You can also change which components you're subscribed to rather than unsubscribing from all of them.
  3. In the Confirm Unsubscribe pop-up window, click UNSUBSCRIBE FROM UPDATES.

Note: You will not be asked for your CNetID, password, or any personal information. If you receive an alert containing a link asking for a login or identifying information, it's a phishing scam and should be ignored.

Unsubscribe from SMS IT Status Alerts

To unsubscribe from all SMS text updates, simply respond to any SMS text update with the word STOP.
