Cisco Unity Connection Voicemail
When you first access your mailbox, you will need to set up your mailbox recordings (name and greeting) as well as reset the temporary PIN (password). Your mailbox ID is the last five digits of your phone number.
Accessing Voicemail
There are two ways you can access your voicemail and set a new or change your PIN.
- Internally from your IP phone by dialing 2-MYVM (2-6986) or by simply pressing the Messages button on your phone.
- Externally by dialing Unity Connection at 773.702.MYVM (773.702.6986).
Set Your New PIN
Set new PIN from an external phone:
- Dial the voicemail access number external 773.702.6986.
- Press * when voicemail answers.
- Enter your five-digit extension number, followed by #.
- (ID is the mailbox number and the mailbox number is the last 5-digits of your phone number.)
- Enter the temporary PIN 26986, followed by #.
- (Temporary PIN is the same as the last 5-digits of the voicemail access number.)
- Follow the tutorial prompts to complete your initial login. You will be asked to record your name and a greeting and set your new PIN.
Set new PIN from another internal phone:
- Dial the voicemail access number internal 26986.
- Press * when voicemail answers.
- Enter your five-digit extension number, followed by #.
- (ID is the mailbox number and the mailbox number is the last 5-digits of your phone number.)
- Enter the temporary PIN 26986, followed by #.
- (Temporary PIN is the same as the last 5-digits of the voicemail access number.)
- Follow the tutorial prompts to complete your initial login. You will be asked to record your name and a greeting, and set your new PIN.
Set new PIN from your phone:
- Get dial tone on your extension and then press the Messages button on your phone.
- (Messages button is the envelope icon.)
- Enter the temporary PIN 26986, followed by #.
- (Temporary PIN is the same as the last 5-digits of the voicemail access number.)
- Follow the tutorial prompts to complete your initial login. You will be asked to record your name and a greeting, and set your new PIN.
Change Your PIN
Change PIN from an external phone:
- Dial the voicemail access number external 773.702.6986.
- Press * when voicemail answers.
- Enter your five-digit extension number, followed by #.
- Enter your current PIN, followed by #.
- Press 4 for Setup Options.
- Press 3 for Preferences.
- Press 1 to change your PIN.
- Enter your new PIN, followed by #.
- Enter your new PIN again, followed by #.
- You have completed change of your PIN.
- Change of your PIN is automatically saved.
Change PIN from another internal phone:
- Dial the voicemail access number external 26986.
- Press * when voicemail answers.
- Enter your five-digit extension number, followed by #.
- Enter your current PIN, followed by #.
- Press 4 for Setup Options.
- Press 3 for Preferences.
- Press 1 to change your PIN.
- Enter your new PIN, followed by #.
- Enter your new PIN again, followed by #.
- You have completed change of your PIN.

Change PIN from your phone:

- Press 1 to change your PIN.
- Enter your new PIN, followed by #.
- Enter your new PIN again, followed by #.
- You have completed change of your PIN.
- Change of your PIN is automatically saved.
PIN Requirements
- Must contain 6–10 digits.
- Cannot contain your primary extension or its reverse.
- Must contain at least three different digits.
- The digits cannot be consecutive, in ascending or descending order (for example, 123456 or 654321).
- A digit cannot be used more than two times consecutively (for example, 124777).
- Cannot contain repeated groups of three or more digits (for example, 408510408).
- Cannot be a numeric representation of your first or last name or a combination of your first and last name.
Voicemail to Email
You can request to have your messages sent directly to your email in the form of a .wav file attachment. In this way, you do not have to access your mailbox to retrieve and listen to messages. Read the Voicemail Options and Actions Chart article for more information.
