Configure a Third-Party Email Application to Access Microsoft 365


Your University Microsoft 365 email application can easily be configured to work with a third-party email application which does modern authentication, such as Thunderbird v78 or newer, although, Microsoft 365 Outlook (for desktop, web, or mobile) is the preferred University email client. The instructions below cover IMAP and POP mail configurations. Additional information on the topic is located in this Microsoft article POP3 and IMAP4.

IMAP and POP Configuration

You can use IMAP4 to connect to your email account. The following instructions apply to Windows and Mac. Use your CNetID email address (i.e., cnetid@uchicago.edu) and password for your account name and password.

Note: If your email application does not successfully connect via IMAP, please confirm you are using the fully qualified name for the username. (i.e., CNetID@uchicago.edu).
