Modify Your Default Email Address in Outlook

Your default email address (the address listed in the From field of your email messages) in Outlook is in the form of CNetID@uchicago.edu. You may, however, change that default email address to any of the alias addresses that you have created.

  1. Log in to myaccount.uchicago.edu with your CNetID and password. Complete the two-factor process if prompted.
  2. Select Go To MyAccount.
  3. Select Email Aliases under Manage Your Email.
    Screen to setup email alias
  4.  Select Change "from" address.
Screen to update your from address information
  5. Choose the alias that you want to use as your email address in Outlook by selecting the radio button next to the desired email address. Select Submit.
  6. You should see a Success screen confirming the alias address that you selected. You will also receive an email notification and, if you've set up your recovery phone number and address, a text message or email notification of the change. This is to ensure that you were the one making the request. If you receive a notification and you did not go through this process to change your default email, notify IT Services right away by calling 773.702.5800.

Alert: If you receive a notification and you have not changed your default email, notify IT Security right away by calling 773.702.2378 (2-CERT) or email them at security@uchicago.edu with the details. An unprompted notification means someone else has access to your CNetID and password. Because we use two-factor authentication, someone else getting access to your CNetID and password does not necessarily mean that someone has access to your account services. IT Security can help you regain complete control of your account.

Note: From the MyAccount website, you may also add or remove alias addresses. These are unique identifiers that you associate with your account. Email sent to one of your aliases, regardless of whether that is the default address for your email, will be delivered to your email account. To learn more about alias addresses, please see the CNetID Email Aliases FAQ.
