You can use your Mac computer to securely connect to the UChicago network from anywhere in the world. All you need is the Cisco AnyConnect Secure Mobility Client application to connect to the UChicago Virtual Private Network (cVPN).
If you cannot successfully install the app, contact IT Services for assistance.
Requirements: macOS 13 Ventura, macOS 12 Monterey, and macOS 11 Big Sur (all 64-bit).
- Launch a web browser and go to cvpn.uchicago.edu.
- Log in with your CNetID and password. If prompted, verify your identity using two-factor authentication (2FA) to access the cVPN.
- After you log in, you'll be presented with the Cisco AnyConnect Banner. Read the Acceptable Use Policy then select Accept.

- You will be presented with the Download and Install site. Select Download for macOS link to download the software. Depending on your browser configuration, you can run the installer from the Downloads bar. If there is no Downloads bar, navigate to where the file was downloaded then run the installer.

Tip: Select the Instructions button to view step-by-step installation instructions. Note: You will be connecting to cvpn.uchicago.edu and not test.cisco.com. After you've installed the application, continue to Step 5 of these instructions.

- Once you've successfully installed the application, you may be prompted to "Keep" the app or "Move to Trash." Delete the installer by selecting Move to Trash.
- Open the Cisco AnyConnect app. Tip: See Step 9 of the installation instructions or use Apple Launchpad.
- A dialog window will open to connect to cvpn.uchicago.edu. Select Connect.

- You'll be presented with a login page. Enter your CNetID and password, complete your 2FA authentication if prompted, then select Log In.
- From the Cisco AnyConnect Banner dialog box, select Accept to continue.

- A notification will appear when you've successfully connected. Also, the AnyConnect app icon will appear on the Finder title bar's right corner.

- To disconnect from cVPN, select the AnyConnect icon on your Dock toolbar, then select Disconnect.
