Use a Panopto Video in Multiple Courses
When you first add a video to Panopto, whether by recording it with the Panopto Recorder or by uploading it from your computer, you will add it to the folder associated with a particular Canvas Course. (This differs from Kaltura, where videos you record or upload are housed in your My Media folder, and you must then publish videos to the Media Gallery of a particular Canvas course in order to use your videos in that course site.) The video will continue to be housed in the folder associated with that course even after the course ends, but you can still reuse the video in future Canvas courses, without needing to move it or copy it. You can do so either by embedding Panopto videos into Canvas Pages on future course sites, or by inserting Panopto videos from previous terms as Module Items.
Embedding Panopto Videos into Canvas Pages
To embed Panopto videos from previous terms into Canvas Pages on a new course site, follow these steps:
- In your new Canvas course, navigate to the content page, assignment, discussion, etc. in which you wish to use a previously uploaded Panopto video.
- Select Panopto Video in the Rich Content Editor toolbar.

- A dialog box will now appear. Make sure that the Choose tab is selected.

- Use the drop-down menu at the top to navigate to the folder in which the video you wish to embed is located.

Tip: You may need to look for your course folder under Default folder. Although this folder is grayed out, it is nevertheless clickable.
Tip: Clicking on a folder name will open that folder directly. If you wish to look for a subfolder within a folder, click on the horizontal arrow next to the top-level folder. This will change it to a vertical arrow and open a menu of subfolders.

- When you are in the correct folder, select the video(s) to embed and select the maroon Insert button.

- The video(s) will now be embedded in the content page, assignment prompt, discussion prompt, etc.

Inserting Panopto Videos into Canvas Modules
To insert Panopto videos from previous terms into Canvas Modules on a new course site, follow these steps:
- In your new Canvas course, navigate to the Modules tab and create or identify a Module into which you wish to insert a Panopto video.
- Click the "+" (plus) icon to add a new Module Item.

- In the Add Item dialogue box, click the drop-down menu and select External Tool.

- Scroll through the list of tools and select Panopto Video.

- Make sure the Choose tab is selected.

- Use the drop-down arrow to locate the folder in which your video is located. (You may need to look for your course folder under Default Folder.) Note: Clicking on a folder name will open that folder directly. If you wish to look for a subfolder within a folder, click on the horizontal arrow next to the top-level folder. This will change it to a vertical arrow and open a menu of subfolders.

- When you are in the correct folder, select the video you wish to insert, modify embed options (if desired), and click the Insert button.

- In the Add Module Item dialogue box, update the Panopto video's display name and Module Item's level of indent, if desired, then click Add Item button.

- To ensure our content is visible to others, click Publish icon (the grayed-out circle with a slash icon) so that the content will be visible to students on Canvas.

- Your Panopto video from a previous term has now been inserted into your current Canvas course site.
