Use Panopto Statistics


 

The Panopto video management system offers a built-in statistics dashboard that provides information on video views, downloads, and interactions (notes and comments). You can access this dashboard for any video or folder for which you have Creator access or higher. This article explains how to use the statistics dashboard and what information it provides.

Access Panopto Statistics

Video Statistics

To view the statistics dashboard for an individual video:

  1. Navigate to the folder that contains the video.
  2. Mouse over the video thumbnail to make a menu appear.
  3. Under the More Options icon (column of three dots), select Stats.

  4. You can also open the statistics dashboard for a video you are currently viewing in the Panopto Video Viewer by selecting the bar graph icon at the upper right of the Viewer.

Folder Statistics

To view the statistics dashboard for a particular folder:

  1. Open the folder in Panopto.
  2. Select the Statistics icon (bar graph) at the upper right.

Overview of the Video Dashboard

The Panopto statistics dashboard for an individual video shows three different graphs/tables: Views and Downloads by Day, Viewer Engagement, and Top Viewers. You can customize the period for which the data are derived by using the drop-down menu at the upper right of the dashboard; the default period is "Last 30 days."

  1. Views and Downloads by Day displays a) the total number of views and downloads combined, b) the total number of unique viewers, and c) the total number of minutes delivered (i.e. watched), broken down by day.

  2. Viewer Engagement displays the number of views, comments, and notes at a particular timestamp within the video.

  3. Top Viewers lists the most active viewers and gives the total minutes delivered (watched), average minutes delivered, percent completed of the video, and notes and comments left for each viewer.

Overview of the Folder Dashboard

The Panopto statistics dashboard for a folder is similar to that for an individual video but has only two graphs/tables, Views and Downloads by Day and Top Sessions.

  1. Views and Downloads by Day displays a) the total number of views and downloads combined for the folder, b) the total number of unique viewers, and c) the total number of minutes delivered (i.e. watched), broken down by day.

  2. Top Sessions lists the most active videos in the given folder, with the number of views + downloads, total minutes delivered, average minutes delivered, and the number of unique viewers.

Download Panopto Statistics

Next to each graph/table in the dashboard is a download icon. Select this to download the corresponding data as a ZIP file that can then be extracted into a comma-separated Excel file (.csv).

You can also download statistics reports by using the blue download links at the bottom of your screen. Reports available at the individual video level are Views and Downloads by Day, Viewer Engagement, and Top Viewers; at the folder level, available reports are Views and Downloads by Day, Top Viewers, and User Completion.
