Select a topic from the list below to learn more.
To opt out of Low Priority Mail filtering, log in to spam.uchicago.edu with your CNetID and password. Complete the two-factor authentication process if prompted. In the left navigation, select Profile. Under the Preferred Language settings, you will find the section What type of email protection do you want? Please select an option from the list below. Choose Spam protection only - turn off Low Priority Mail filtering, then select Save.
Emails in your Quarantine expire after 14 days, so you need to take action before this time period or they will be deleted.
If the email isn't delivered to your inbox or caught in your Quarantine, contact IT Services for support in locating the message.
Your messages are filtered through the University's email protection service first and then Google applies additional spam filters before the messages are delivered to your inbox. It's recommended that you make changes to your Safe and Blocked Senders list directly in the email protection service, so they are applied to your email account wherever you choose to access it.
When you make changes to your Junk email filters in Outlook, such as marking an email as junk or blocking a sender, these changes are not communicated to the email protection service.
To ensure your email settings are applied consistently across all applications and devices where you access email, IT Services recommends that you make changes to your email filters directly in your Quarantine at spam.uchicago.edu.
Mass emails sent from the University and @uchicago.edu accounts are allowed by policy to be delivered in the email protection system, so these messages will not be filtered into your Quarantine.
If you send mass emails from University email accounts and encounter issues with how your messages are filtered, please contact IT Services for support.
If an email you sent was incorrectly identified as spam, please contact IT Services.
To ensure you receive your favorite marketing emails and newsletters, you should add the email sender to your Safe Senders list. You can do this from your Quarantine Email Digest or through your online Quarantine. Visit View and Manage Your Email Quarantine for instructions.
For alumni, your messages will be filtered through the email protection service and any messages containing potentially malicious content will be tagged with [Spam] in the subject line to help protect you from threats.
You will not have access to an online Quarantine or receive Quarantine Email Digests in your inbox.
Visit spam.uchicago.edu and log in with your CNetID and password. Complete the two-factor authentication process if prompted. In the main navigation, select Profile. Under the My Settings section, uncheck the option Send email with new messages in my Quarantine.
If you are an owner of a UChicago mailing list hosted on lists.uchicago.edu, it is also enabled with email protection. To access the email Quarantine for your UChicago mailing list, log in to spam.uchicago.edu. Next to your personal email account, you will see a drop-down menu. From there, select the name of the mailing list you want to view. For further instructions, visit View and Manage Your Email Quarantine.
Although UChicago mailing lists may have multiple owners, only one owner is designated as the email protection delegate. This delegate is able to manage the list's Quarantine. By default, the list owner listed first alphabetically by CNetID is the email protection delegate.
If you are a list owner and would like to change the delegate for your list, please contact IT Services.
IT Services implemented a Report Phish button in supported versions of Outlook for Windows, Outlook for Mac, Outlook on the web, and Gmail clients to improve email security and response. The purpose of this option is to give you a simple way to report to IT Services any suspected phishing scam emails that our email protection systems failed to block and were consequently delivered to your inbox. For additional information on using the Report Phish button, view this FAQ.
If you have any questions about email protection or have any other security concern, please contact security@uchicago.edu.
