IT Services offers Jabber as a solution for making and receiving calls while away from your desk phone. Jabber Softphone is joined to your work phone number and can run on your computer, laptop, or smartphone.

What can I do with Jabber?
Jabber allows you to use the most common features of your work desk phone. You can:
- Make calls
- Receive calls
- Access voicemail
Note: Jabber does have video capabilities, but it is not supported along with other features.
How do I request Jabber for the first time?
- If you have an existing phone number and phone line service with the University, submit a request via this Jabber Softphone Request form.
- If you do not have an existing extension and phone line service with the University, use the New/Replace/Upgrade Desk Phone form. You can use this form to choose whether you want a desk phone, Jabber, or both.
Note: Under certain circumstances, you are able to move users over in bulk. You may use this form to make your request.
How do I get the Jabber application on my devices?
To get Jabber on your devices, follow these two steps:
- Voice Provisioning: You will need to submit a request to IT Services. Please refer to How do I request Jabber for the first time?
- Application Download: For managed machines, please consult Jabber Softphone Installation Guides for Windows and Mac.
How do I make and receive calls using Jabber?

I'm running Single Number Reach. Do I need to turn this off before using Jabber?
Yes, you can turn off Single Number Reach once you have Jabber installed. Turn off Single Number Reach from within Jabber by following these few steps:
- Open Jabber.
- Select the telephone icon located at the bottom of the screen.

- A new menu window appears that includes these options: Device for calls, Forward Calls, and Single Number Reach. Make changes as you see fit for the drop-down menus.

- The phone number where your desk phone is forwarded is noted under the Single Number Reach option and a slide bar to toggle Single Number Reach on and off. Slide the bar from the right to the left to turn off Single Number Reach.

Note: The phone number where you forwarded your desk phone will remain present but will not be turned on in the Single Number Reach Portal.
