Jabber Softphone Installation Guide for Windows and Mac


Jabber can be installed on Windows and Mac operating systems. This article provides instructions on how to install Jabber on both operating systems.

Tip: If you are running Single Number Reach, disable it in Jabber. See the Jabber Softphone FAQ question I'm running Single Number Reach. Do I need to turn this off before using Jabber? for more details.

Windows Installation

Tip: If you are not on a campus network, connect to the cVPN before starting your installation.

  1. Go to the Start menu.
  2. Search for Software Center.
  3. Select the Cisco Jabber application.
  4. Select Install.
  5. After Jabber is installed, the Install option will appear as Uninstall, which denotes the application is properly installed.Go to Go to the Start menu to run jabber.Type Jabber, then select the Jabber icon.
    Tip: To uninstall the application, repeat steps 1-4, then choose Uninstall

Mac Installation

  1. Ensure your machine is connected to the internet. The cVPN is not needed for Mac users to install Jabber.
  2. Go to the Finder menu. 

    Select Go on the ribbon.

    Choose Applications.

    Enter Self Service in the Search Bar.

    Tip: You may select the Launchpad icon on your toolbar to locate your available installed applications.

    All of your installed apps will appear.

    Enter Self Service in the Search Bar. The Self Service app icon will appear.
  3. Double-click Self Service to view all IT Services' available supported applications. Once the Self Service applications is opened, enter Jabber into the search bar to locate the installer.
  4. Select Install, then wait for the installation to complete. Tip: Note a circular progress wheel will appear until the installation is completed.
  5. Navigate back to your Applications folder to verify the application is installed, then double-click the Cisco Jabber icon to launch the application.
