This article explains how to navigate the ribbon menu in Sitecore.
The Ribbon refers to the menu bar of the Content Editor. The ribbon contains several tabs that allow the user to manage various editing functions. This guide is intended to be an overview of common actions for Sitecore publishers, and should not be considered an exhaustive guide.
This guide assumes that the user has navigated to the Content Editor and has their site opened in the content tree.
After editing anything on a page, click Save under the Home tab. This will not publish the edits but will create a new version in the page's history. After clicking Save, your item will be in Draft state.
The Edit button will display the current workflow state of the item.
You can use the scrollbar to create new subitems when the parent item/page is highlighted. This is the same result as left-clicking an item in the content tree and clicking Insert.
Clicking the Duplicate button will create a copy of the item highlighted in the content tree.
After editing anything on a page, click Save under the Review tab. This will not publish the edits but will create a new version in the page's history. After clicking Save, your item will be in Draft state.
Clicking the Validation button will allow you to see any potential errors for the item.
Workflow will allow you to lock and move the item through the publishing workflow. You can also view the item's editing history by clicking History.
After editing anything on a page, click Save under the Publish tab. This will not publish any items but will create a new version in the page's history. After clicking Save, your item will be in Draft state.
When using the Publish button in the Publish tab, only Publish Item should ever be used.
Publish site will publish all pending changes on the entire site, including any draft state work from other content authors.
Clicking Experience Editor will open the item in the Experience Editor.
Clicking Preview will open the item in a Preview window.
The Versions tab allows you to create and view the item's version history. Version history allows you to see when site changes were made, and by which user. It also allows you to roll back and re-publish previous page versions. You can also add and remove versions, or compare two versions against one another.
