IT Services encourages enrolled students to set up their UChicago account services (e.g., CNetID, email, email forwarding, email aliases, etc.) before commencing classes. Below, you'll find resources to guide you through successfully setting up your account services.
Your CNetID is the key to accessing most services, systems, and applications while you are a student at UChicago. Create your CNetID, and refer to the Claim Your CNetID knowledge article for instructions if needed.
Two-factor authentication is one of the best tools to secure your sensitive information from hackers and data breaches. UChicago uses two-factor authentication (2FA) as a layer of protection on most of the systems, services, and apps provided to you as a student. You will need to set up 2FA before setting up MyAccount, Microsoft 365 suite (e.g., Outlook, Word, Excel, OneDrive, etc.), and the UChicago Virtual Private Network (cVPN). Learn more about 2FA and how to set it up in this FAQ. You can also view these 2FA-related articles for specific instructions on topics that cover what you should do when you lose or break a device that uses 2FA or use a YubiKey for 2FA authentication, and more.
You can manage all your UChicago account services from MyAccount including options to secure your account information, set up email aliases, and forward emails. Read MyAccount Overview for instructions.
Tip: You must be logged in to myaccount.uchicago.edu with your CNetID and password to use these options:
Change CNetID Password
Manage my Recovery Address/Recovery Phone
Two-factor Authentication (2FA)

When you claim your CNetID, simultaneously, your email address is created as [your cnetid]@uchicago.edu. See Email Overview at UChicago for more details.
Read the Forward Your UChicago Email knowledge article for instructions on how to forward your UChicago email to another account.
Tip: To confirm your email forward is working, send a test email to your UChicago email account from a non-UChicago email address, then visit your selected forwarding destination to confirm your change was successful. If the forward was successful, the test email will be in your inbox.
Read Modify Your Default Email Address in Outlook to learn how to set up your email aliases.
Microsoft Outlook on the web is the University's email application of choice for receiving University-business-related emails. You can access your email at portal.office.com. You may also use Outlook on a device of your choice including Windows, Mac, iOS, and Android devices. Installation and Configuration instructions can be found in this knowledge article Configure Outlook for Your Device.
You have the option to forward your UChicago email account to your UChicago Google email account which is accessible at gmail.uchicago.edu. Read Connect Your Gmail Account to Outlook and Microsoft 365. However, be aware that your department may have email restrictions on forwarding, so check before setting up forwarding. To manage your email filters, visit spam.uchicago.edu, then log in with your CNetID and password. For more information, view the Email Protection Overview and FAQ.
