You can use your iPhone or iPad to securely connect to the UChicago network from anywhere in the world. All you need is the Cisco AnyConnect Virtual Private Network app, which is easy to install. Simply follow these instructions.

Requirements: iOS version 10.11, 10.12, 10.13.  An active Internet connection is also required.

If you cannot successfully install the app, contact IT Services for assistance.

  1. Install AnyConnect from your App Store.

Tip: Open the App Store app and search for AnyConnect.

  2. Select Cisco AnyConnect and click on the Install button.
  3. Find your newly installed AnyConnect application.
  4. To open the application, tap on the AnyConnect icon.
  5. The very first time you start AnyConnect, you may get the following pop-up message: “Cisco AnyConnect Security Mobility Client extends the VPN capabilities of your device. Do you want to enable this software?” Select OK.
  6. Click on Connections and then Add VPN Connection to add a new VPN connection. Click Allow to continue.
  7. For the Description field enter CVPN or another description. Enter cvpn.uchicago.edu in the Server Address field, and then click Save when done.

  8. To start the VPN service while the application is loaded, move the slider for AnyConnect VPN to On (left to right).

  9. At prompt, log in with your CNetID and password, then click Connect.

Verify your identity using two-factor authentication (2FA) in order to access the cVPN or download the software from cvpn.uchicago.edu. You can sign up for 2FA at 2fa.uchicago.edu.

You may get prompted for an additional 2FA login. Please select the method for the second verification process. Read the 2FA Log In Instructions for more information.

Tip: Duo Push is the easiest form of authentication to use, especially if you are frequently away from your landline phone. It sends a push notification to your phone, and you simply tap the Approve option to log in.

If you select the "Send Me a Push" option, you will be prompted with this "Login request" banner. Touch your screen to advance to the Login request Approve/Deny screen.

    Choose Approve to log in.

  10. After you log in, you will be presented with an "Acceptable Use" banner, click Accept to continue.
