The following instructions show you how to install the Cisco AnyConnect Client on Windows 10 and connect to the University of Chicago virtual private network (cVPN).

  1. Launch a web browser and go to: cvpn.uchicago.edu.
  2. When prompted, log in with your CNetID and password.

Note: Beginning September 6, 2018, you will need to verify your identity using two-factor authentication (2FA) in order to access the cVPN or download the software from cvpn.uchicago.edu. You can sign up for 2FA at 2fa.uchicago.edu.

You may get prompted for additional 2FA login. Please select the method for the second verification process.

  3. After log in, you will be presented with a Login banner, click Continue.
  4. You will be presented with the client download screen. Click on Download for Windows link to download the software. Depending on your browser configuration, you can run the installer from the Downloads bar.

If there is no Download bar, navigate to where the file was downloaded and run the installer.

  5. Follow through the installer instructions after the welcome screen.

  6. You may see a User Access Control warning, click Yes to continue with the installation.
  7. Click Finish to complete the install.
  8. Launch the Cisco AnyConnect program from the Start Menu.
  9. Enter cvpn.uchicago.edu in the Ready to Connect window and click Connect.
  10. Again, you will be prompted to log in with your CNetID and password and click Ok.

You may get prompted for additional 2FA login. Please select the method for the second verification process.

  11. At the welcome window, read the Acceptable Use Policy and click Accept to continue.
  12. A notification will appear when connected successfully.

The AnyConnect application icon will be visible in the system tray in the lower right-hand corner.

  13. To disconnect from cVPN, open the AnyConnect application by selecting the AnyConnect icon and click Disconnect.
