Configure Outlook for Your Device

Tip: Before you install Microsoft Outlook on your device, make sure to install your device's latest operating system (OS) updates.

iOS Mobile Devices

Installation

  1. Go to the App Store on your device.
  2. Type Outlook into the search bar then select Install.
  3. If you already have the app, update your Outlook app to the latest version by selecting Update.
    Tip: If the update option is not available, you already have the latest version.

Configuration

  1. On your mobile device, go to the App Store and download the Microsoft Outlook app.
  2. Open the app after it is installed.
  3. Tap Add Account.

  4. If your device doesn't automatically find your UChicago account, enter your CNetID@uchicago.edu email address and tap Add Account.

  5. Enter your CNetID and password for Single Sign-On (SSO), then complete the two-factor authentication (2FA) process.
    Tip: Learn how to set up your two-factor authentication if you've not already set up 2FA.
  6. You have the option to add another account. Tap Maybe Later to proceed to your Microsoft 365 email in Outlook.

  7. Choose whether or not you would like Outlook to send you notifications.

  8. Outlook redirects you to your Focused Inbox. You can see your Mail, Calendar, and other Applications by tapping on the icons located at the bottom of the screen.

Android Mobile Devices

Installation

  1. Go to the Play Store on your device and type Outlook in the search bar.
  2. Tap Install.
  3. If you already have the app, update your Outlook app to the latest version by selecting Update.
    Tip: If the update option is not available, you already have the latest version.
  4. Tap Open.
  5. Tap Add account, enter your UChicago email address, then tap Continue.
    Tip: If you've had Outlook installed before, Outlook will automatically display your UChicago email address.
  6. From the Add another account screen, select MAYBE LATER, unless you want to add an additional account.
  7.  You will be prompted to Enable Notifications, select NO Thanks or TURN ON.
  8. Enter your CNetID and password. You will be prompted to complete the two-factor authentication (2FA) process.
    Note: If you've had Outlook installed before, Outlook will automatically display your UChicago email address.
    Tip: Learn how to set up your two-factor authentication if you've not already set up 2FA.
  9. Once you've signed into your account, Outlook is ready for use.
  10. Outlook will redirect you to your Inbox. You can see your Mail, Calendar, Contacts, and more by tapping on the icons located at the bottom of your screen.

Windows 10

  1. From the Start menu, open the Settings menu.
  2. Select Accounts.
  3. Select Email & app accounts.
  4. Select Add an account.
  5. Select Office (Microsoft) 365, Exchange and press Continue.
  6. In the Email Address field, type your email address. For example, CNetID@uchicago.edu.
  7. Enter your CNetID and password. Complete two-factor authentication if prompted.
  8. Select Next.
  9. On the Use this account everywhere on your device screen, check the box to Allow my organization to manage my device.

  10. Select Done when prompted.
  11. Open Outlook.
  12. Ensure that your email is correct and select Connect.
  13. Enter your Password then select OK. Check Remember my credentials if this is your personal computer.
  14. Select Done.
  15. Allow Microsoft Outlook to load your emails. It may take several minutes

MacOS

You must configure your Outlook application before you can configure Apple Mail to read your UChicago email. This section provides instructions for configuring both applications.

Configure the Outlook App

  1. Open Outlook. If it detects your account, you can select Add CNetID@uchicago.edu.
    1. This allows you to skip steps 2-4.
    2. You can also select Add Another Account if it detects an unintended account.
  2. If it does not then enter in your email address and select Continue.
  3. If prompted, enter your CNetID and Password. Select Sign in.
  4. If prompted, complete the two-factor authentication process.
  5. You will receive a confirmation that the account has been successfully added.

    Note: After the account is configured, the Accounts dialog box will appear. You may close this window to access your inbox. Allow several minutes for the account setup process.

Configure the Apple Mail app

  1. Launch Mail. Account configuration will start automatically.
  2. Choose a Mail account provider. Select Microsoft Exchange, then select Continue.
  3. Enter Your Name, type your Email Address (e.g., CNetID@uhicago.edu), then select Sign in.
  4. Select Sign In to have your Microsoft Exchange account discovered.
  5. Enter your CNetID and password, then select Log in.
  6. You will be prompted to complete the two-factor authentication process.


  7. Select Accept when prompted to accept the permissions requested.
  8. Select the apps you want to use within your Mail app (i.e., Mail, Contacts, Calendars, Reminders, Notes) then select Done.
  9. Your messages will be downloaded from the Exchange server and your mailboxes will synchronized with your Microsoft 365 account. This may take a few minutes to update.
