Create a New Canvas Assignment
- Create a new assignment in Canvas. From the course navigation menu, select Assignments > +Assignment.
- Open the Submission Type dropdown list.
- Select External Tools.
- Select Find while leaving the URL search bar empty.
- In the pop-up window, scroll down to and select Panopto Video, which will take you to a new pop-up window for configuration. Do not click Select for now, because you must configure the options first.
Assign a Recorded Video
- Select a grading method in the new pop-up window, then select Continue.>

- Provide a video. You may either Choose one, Upload a local file, or Record one now. Once you make a selection, select the Insert button at the bottom right corner.

- You will be routed back to the Configure External Tool window. Click Select.
- Save and Publish the assignment.
Add Comments in Panopto
- At the bottom of the video, select the Discussions icon. If you do not see this button, You may need to hover your cursor over the video to reveal the progress bar, and select the chevron at the bottom to reveal an overlay that contains the Discussions button.

- Type your comment and select the send button at the bottom right corner. You can see all the comments in this overlay You can also download comments a .txt file by selecting the Download button on the top right corner.

- You can reply to others or your own comments.

Grading in Speedgrader
You can assign students grades based on their comments in Speedgrader; however, students’ comments do not appear in SpeedGrader itself. You may wish to view the Panopto video containing student comments in another window while assigning grades. You can access SpeedGrader from Assignments > SpeedGrader. Once in Speedgrader, you can assign grades and comments (including multimedia comments).
