Starting February 2, 2026, Duo Mobile, the University’s two-factor authentication tool for mobile devices, will no longer support outdated Android and iOS versions.
To continue using Duo Push, update your Duo Mobile app to version 4.85.0 or higher. This update may require you to upgrade your device’s operating system—Apple devices must run at least version iOS 16.0 and Android devices must run at least version 11. If your device does not support these versions, you’ll need to upgrade your device or use a different compatible device for Duo Push.
You can continue generating passcodes on older devices using your current app. However, if enhanced authentication is required, codes from the outdated Duo Mobile app will not work. If you wish to continue using the older version of the Duo Mobile app, visit 2fa.uchicago.edu and text or print a set of 10 passcodes. Those will work with enhanced authentication.
To continue using Duo Mobile Push on your current device, update your operating system and set updates to automatic for Duo Mobile to ensure that you are using the most up-to-date version that is available to you.
Yes. In addition to printing or texting yourself a set of 10 emergency passcodes, you can use a biometric ID (TouchID, FaceID, Face Unlock, Windows Hello), a YubiKey (available for sale at the ID & Privileges Office), or you can purchase your own Security Key (make sure it's FIDO 2.0-enabled). All of these solutions will work both for regular and enhanced authentication.
It is likely that you do not need to replace your device, but merely update the Duo Mobile application from the App Store or Google Play. Please make sure to set up your device with automatic application updates to ensure that you have the most recent version of Duo Mobile.
