NOTE: Your standard license for Claude Enterprise must be provisioned before you can start using it; please follow the steps in Request Access to Claude Enterprise if you have not already done so.
Tools
Claude Enterprise includes three distinct tools:
- Claude Chat: This core AI functionality enables interactive, natural language conversations via a chat interface. Users can ask questions, request that information be summarized, generate creative content, and query information, making it a helpful tool for everyday tasks.
- Claude Cowork: Designed for collaborative environments, Cowork integrates Claude into platforms like Teams and Google Drive, helping enable groups to brainstorm ideas, organize projects, automate routine tasks, and manage workflows more efficiently.
- Claude Code: Tailored for technical users and developers, Claude Code provides advanced support for programming. It assists with code generation, data analysis, bug fixing, documentation, and learning new coding concepts, streamlining software development with AI capabilities.
Claude Chat can be used over the internet, at https://claude.ai without anything being downloaded and installed on your device.
Claude Cowork and Code require an application to be downloaded and installed on your machine.
ITS-managed Devices
Note: you must be connected to the internet for the following updates to become available on your devices.
macOS users
- Open a Finder window.
- Navigate to Applications.
- Claude appears in the list of all applications.

Windows users
- Open the Start menu.
- Type claude in the search bar.
- Claude appears in in the Best Match category.

Note: If the Claude Cowork functionality appears greyed out on your device, restart your device to resolve the issue. If the problem persists after restarting, please contact the ITS Service Desk.
Non-managed Devices
macOS users
- Browse to Claude's download page at https://claude.com/download. Typically, your browser will identify the macOS, so you can click the button labeled Download for macOS or select the appropriate download button from the desktop options on this page.

- Drag the downloaded file into the Applications folder to begin the installation.

- Once installation is complete, launch Claude from your Applications folder.
- Click the Get Started button.

- Enter your CNetID@uchicago.edu email address in the email box.
- As soon as you enter the uchicago.edu portion, a button appears labeled Continue with SSO. Select this button.

- The page may redirect you to UChicago's Single Sign-On page. Click Next to enter your CNet password.
- Complete two-factor authentication if prompted.
- If using Chrome, a confirmation box may appear requesting Claude to share information about you. Select Continue to reach the final step of installation before the Claude for Desktop app appears.

Windows users
Important Note: Do not download Claude Desktop for Windows.
- Browse to Claude's Desktop for Windows page at https://support.claude.com/en/articles/12622703-deploy-claude-desktop-for-windows and select the appropriate Claude MSIX file from the list.

- To find out which version of an MSIX file you need (x64 or ARM64), check your Windows system type:
- Open the Start Menu.
- Click the Start button and type
System Information, then press Enter.
- Locate the 'System Type' Entry.
- In the System Information window, look for the
"System Type" field.
If it says "x64-based PC", download the x64 version.
If it says "ARM64-based PC", download the ARM64 version.
- You can also check by going to Settings > System > About > Device specifications > System type. This will ensure you install the correct MSIX file for your hardware.
