It takes just a few short steps to map a network drive. The article below will walk you through each step to map a network drive in Windows 10 and Mac OS X. Before you begin, make sure to read the caution statement below.
Alert! Before you begin, if you were just granted this access and haven't logged out since, sign out and sign on again. If you were added to a group to gain access, that membership won't be reflected on your Windows computer until you've signed in again.
Notes:
- The drive letters used in the examples below are random. Feel free to use any available letters.
- If you want to map drives from off campus, you will need to establish a VPN connection first.
Windows 10
- Open File Explorer.
- Right-click on my PC.
- Select Map a Network Drive.
- Enter the [drive path], for example, \\tank.uchicago.edu\DCS.
- Select reconnect at sign in.
- Your drive is mapped and opens a window directly into your departments subfolder.
Mac OS X
- In the Finder, under the Go menu, select Connect to Server... (keyboard shortcut: Command+K)
- A Connect to Server window opens. In the Server Address: field, type smb://tank.uchicago.edu/ShareName/SubfolderName. Replace ShareName with your department's directory on the shared drive. Replace SubfolderName with your department's subfolder on the shared drive (if it's provided, not all connections require a subfolder). Select Connect.
- Enter ADLOCAL\[your CNetID] and password. Select Connect.
- Your drive is mapped and opens a window directly into your department's subfolder.
