Link UChicago Box Documents to Canvas Modules for Instructors

As an instructor, you may have documents that are stored on UChicago Box that you wish to add to your Canvas course content. You can easily add these documents by using Modules and creating links. Instructions on how to do this are below:

  1. In your Canvas course site, navigate to Modules and select the Plus Sign (+).

    Plus Button in Demo Module

  2. From the Add Item to [Name of Module] drop-down list, choose External Tool and then choose Box.

  4. In the pop-up window, choose the document you want to link by selecting the appropriate option button on the right. In the Choose Access Type drop-down list, you may choose People with the link, People in your company, or People in this folder. (People in this folder is the most secure option, but you must grant users access privileges to the folder; for more on access privileges and permission levels in Box, see the Box article Understanding Collaborator Permission Levels.) Then select the Choose box.

    Choose Items from Box

  5. You will be returned to the Add Item to [Name of Module] dialog box. In the Page Name field, type a new title or descriptive name for the Box link if you would like, and then select the Add Item box.

  6. The Box document is now added to the module as a link. To give students access to it, publish the link by selecting the crossed-out circle so that it becomes a green check mark.
