Deactivate Apps in Microsoft 365


There are times when an application becomes obsolete, or you longer need an app. In this article, you will find instructions on how to deactivate Office 365 apps that you no longer find useful.

To learn how to deactivate Office 365 apps on a device, you may watch this short Microsoft video or follow the instructions below:

  1. Navigate to portal.office.com. Enter your email address (ex: CNetID@uchicago.edu). You will automatically get redirected to the University of Chicago's single sign-on page. 
  2. Enter your CNetID and password, and if prompted complete the two-factor authentication process.
  3. You will now be on your Office Home page.
  4. Select your picture located on the top right of your screen, then select View Account.
    This will take you to your account Overview page, where you can see information on your Microsoft 365 account.
  5. Select Office apps > Manage, which will allow you to edit your installed apps on your devices.
  6. Now, select Apps and Devices, which will show all of your installed Microsoft 365 products.
  7. From there, select the checkbox next to devices to display how many devices Office 365 is installed on.
  8. Select Sign out to deactivate Microsoft 365 on your specific devices.
  9. A dialog box will appear so that you can continue to Sign out or Cancel the deactivation process.yes to remove old software

Note: It may take up to 72 hours before a device is actually deactivated.
