· Search prefixes are collections of lowercase letters followed by a colon (:) that help refine search results by limiting the query to a specific type of Workday object. Some examples include:
· worker: – Used to search for an employee or contingent worker.
· id: – Used to search for a specific person or organization using a global identifier.
· jr: – Used to search for a job requisition using the job posting title or requisition ID.
· This document contains a non-exhaustive list of some selected prefixes for common searches. To see a list of all search prefixes available in Workday, enter a question mark (?) in the search box. This will include search prefixes for some areas of Workday that UChicago is not utilizing.
1. Log into Workday using your CNetID and password.
2. To use a search prefix, in the search box at the top of the screen type the prefix followed by the search criteria (e.g., worker: john smith), and then hit Enter.
3. A list of results associated with the search criteria will populate. Select the desired result.
a. When using a search prefix, the Enter key must be pressed to run the complete search. Prefixes display a preview of the search results below the search bar, but this preview may not show all results.
b. Workday search includes all results containing the entered letters in the sequence they are typed. For example, typing in worker: dave will yield results such as Dave Matthews, Daveed Diggs, and Marcus Davenport, but it would not include David Bowie.
c. Remember that searches can only include items accessible to the user. If the security access does not allow viewing a specific item, it will not come up in a search.
